National Urban Livelihood Mission or NULM was introduced by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation (MHUPA) on 24th September, 2013. This mission emphasizes on the urban poor households by their reducing poverty and vulnerability. This mission enables poor people to have access of gainful self or skilled-ware employment opportunities so that improvement could be brought in their livelihoods. The improvement is brought by building strong level institutions for the poor and providing them with shelters equipped with essential services. Apart from this, this mission also concentrates on addressing the living conditions of the urban street vendors by giving them access to suitable spaces, social security, institutional credit and skills for emerging market opportunities. The NULM is creating opportunities for the poor people by skill development that helps them to create market-based employment and setting up self-employment venture
